The incident occurred in Rockland County on Thursday, Oct. 31, around 9:30 a.m. near 88 Buckingham Court, in Pomona.
According to Haverstraw Police Chief John Gould, the truck driver was found conscious but had sustained multiple injuries.
The Fire Department and EMS arrived on the scene and extricated the driver. Haverstraw Ambulance transported him to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla for further treatment.
Gould said an Initial investigation revealed that the operator had just completed an oil delivery. While securing the oil hose at the rear of the truck, parked on a hill, the vehicle began to roll backward.
"Tragically, the truck rolled over the driver and down an embankment," Gould said.
Gould said the circumstances leading to the truck’s movement remain under investigation, and the Department of Transportation will inspect the vehicle to determine the cause.
The Haverstraw Detective Division is investigating with assistance from the Town of Ramapo Accident Reconstruction team.
The injured man was not identified.
